In all sagas, there is an interlude when the action pauses and the characters come forward to deepen our involvement in their story. So it is with Breaking Dawn, Part 1. The movie is slower paced, more character-driven, and self-referentially humorous.
Being a big fan of the books, I know the story and so was more alert to how Bill Condon visualized the story and created tension for both those in the know and those who only know the movies. I found that he created real suspense and tension. And, a great surprise ending.
Meanwhile, the characters have deepened, as have the actors' performances. In the Twilight saga, I think Eclipse will be the best movie, but in the story arc, Breaking Dawn Part 1 is a worthy addition to the franchise.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This film can stand on its own as a masterpiece of cinema. If it doesn't get nominated for Best Movie, I'll be very surprised. Ditto for Alan Rickman as Best Supporting Actor.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Amazing Performance

Having seen many productions, including the original Broadway show, I found this concert performance as good as any and better than most. Individually and as an ensemble, the performers found new insights into their characters and situations that made the experience a revelation of the depths of feeling and release in a show that many have found "cold" and "ironic" in the past.
The performance was wonderful -- Dessay and Flores are among the best around today. The production was okay, but ultimately unsatisfying as the "real life" story just sort of disappeared in Act Two.
The big issue was that there was problems with the HD transmission that disrupted the visual enjoyment. Whether it was with the Met or the local equipment was never explained and the management never made an appearance to explain and/or apologize.
I'm always hesitant in seeing movies made from books I've enjoyed. But, lately (LOTR, HP), things have been improving. Now, with Twilight, I was very pleased with the adaptation. I think it was easier than with most since these books are almost cinematic in their plotting and descriptions.
The actors are excellent in realizing the characters even when they didn't conform to my mental image at first. I would certainly come back for the sequels.
