Long Way To Go

Having never read the book, but hearing ALL the hype, my expectations were high. While Roberts' performance is adequate, the material doesn't translate well to the screen. I found myself thinking that this is yet another mid-life-crisis-finding-yourself-movie ... except that this woman has enough money to travel the world to find "it". While I appreciated the cinematography and exotic locals, I failed to understand the source of the character's unhappines. I wasn't convinced at any point that she understood why she was unhappy, so the decision to BE happy was just as unconvincing. Skip it.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Disappointing

I found myself wondering what my cat might be doing -- i.e., I was bored. Too bad because this could be a great franchise. I enjoyed the performance of Noah Ringer and found him believable and captivating. There were a couple of interesting supporting roles, but I found the story disjointed. I understood it - just didn't think it was well executed. Some of the special effects and bending shots were amazing, but it didn't make up for the lack of cohesiveness in the story. I've felt this before from Shyamalan -- his direction doesn't jive with his vision.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Best of the Series

Spot on! This is the best film in the series to date, and I can't wait for the next installment. The acting is also the best in the series and is evolving as the characters continue their journey. This film has a cohesive story line and fills in some of the back story that makes you appreciate the complex and complicated choices that Bella, Edward and Jacob are facing. It's a fascinating look at their world, young love, loyalty and security. Everyone should enjoy it - you won't see a more entertaining film this summer!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Another Hit for Lopez

I really enjoyed this modern-day love affair ...and the humor it found in the mixed up world we live in today. Alex O'Loughlin's character was charming and the perfect antecdote to Lopez's [perhaps] overly-independent character. Great situational comedy as well as thoughtful dialogue. I don't mind the formulaic ending when the ride is so much fun. Very funny supporting cast too -- you'll enjoy the whole package.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Funny Actors; BAAAD Script

I usually stay for the whole thing but was hard presssed to watch to the bitter end of Date Night. These actors are so much more talented that this script -- which gave us one of the more boring comedies I've seen. It had rare funny moments, not nearly enough to save it. Slow paced too, esp. for a story that is supposed to take place in just one night! What a let down; this movie had the potential to be so much more with superstars Carrell and Fey. Sadly, it's earned a Razzie.

That's Action!

Possibly the most realistic Iraqi war movie to date (sans Hurt Locker). A probing look at the various "sides" of the war - and an intelligent portrayal about the difficulties presented when fighting a foreign war: politics, patriotism, cultural and language barriers, arms interests, etc. Not to mention the #1 question: are we there under false pretenses and just who's interests are we protecting? The politicians, soldiers, profitiers and citizen's interests all collide for one riviting film. Great action and intense realism and a frightening depiction of what modern warfare is really about. See it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Alice ... continued

A teenaged Alice in a coming of age/modern story line set in an ageless Wonderland. Pretty fabulous. I found this adaptation/continuation beautifully shot and visually mesmerizing. Most know the tale, but you'll find this Alice a little different and intriguing. Mia W. was the PERFECT Alice and the supporting cast is just what you'd expect too -- exceptional. Special effects bring that WOW factor - Tim Burton style. Good triumphs over evil - and you'll have a fantastic time along the way. Don't miss it - young and old

A Franchise Is Born

Logan Lerman takes an amazing turn as a new teen action hero. His high school character, Percy, is an unwanting hero, but realizes his fate leaves him no choice -- he has a duty to defend and stand on the side of right in the face of peril. Percy is that rare blend of charm, aptitude, intelligence and chops! This mythical tale brought into a 21st century reality is a fantastical ride. Percy will need to hone his skills for an all-but-certain future defense of mankind. Fabulous fun for all ages.

Uncompelling

The track record of Scorsese/DiCaprio collaborations doesn't measure up for this film. First, the run time is too long for this dreary psych fest. Second, the story has many holes where I wondered why the character did or didn't "do" something ... We're led down a seemingly terminal road that goes 'round and 'round so long that I didn't care much what the ending would reveal. Interesting final twist and certailnly leaves questions about mental health care, but I was hoping for something more robust.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Full of Heart

Jeff Bridges amazes as a wash-up country singer who's still trying to make his way in this world. Music is what he knows and loves but times have changed and rendered him irrelevant. This film is an insightful look at an aging man who little by little bravely faces his demons .... but we get to see HIS heart, not just snapshots in time as is often the case in film like this. Gyllenhaal has given another wonderful perfomance as Bad's muse -- and life 'saver'. Bridges deserves and Oscar!
