It's a fun movie about the trials of the TV morning 'news' game .... and a funny look at the characters in the game. Diane Keaton was flawless and perfectly cast. While the rest of the actors were good too, I had a difficult time believing Rachel McAdams's character as a bumbling naive wannabe ... it didn't reasonate with hard-charging, go-get 'em leadership and fortitude she otherwise displays in the film. So, NEWSFLASH: we can like confident assertive women ... they don't need to be bumbling and fumbling around to be humanized. Otherwise it was a wonderful portrayal, timely and sensitive. There were some huge laugh-out-loud moments and it struck me that the entire (filled) theatre I was in was roaring. Well done.
Emma Stone is a treasure and brings a rare authenticity to present-day teenage angst. The social lessons, faux pauxs and tragedies that are high school are played out with a touch of confidence and palatable humor. I can't imagine any young actress bringing this character to life better than Stone. It's a fun romp with some smart dialogue, sassy smarcasm and innocent moments too. See it!
This is not my favorite genre of movie, but if it's yours - you'll love this film! The franchise will live on post "Afterlife" - and it should. This is a well-crafted film which easily explains it's post-apocolypse story line and takes you right to the action. Our heroine is still trying to save wha'ts left of the futuristic world ... and she does it in style! Fabulous action sequences, requisite slow-mo and special effects, but it all WORKS.
Great cast and a shoot-em-up story in the streets of Boston once again yields a fabulous film! Boston is many things to different people, and for this group of townie thugs lost in their local crime ring and misguided loyalties, it all comes to a predictable end. Still, Affleck is adept at telling a story and there are moments of real tension & grit and, of course, some great chase scenes. The shootouts are just amazing. I enjoyed the ride and particularly the performances of Renner and Lively. I'd even say it's one of Afflecks better acting performances!
I hadn't HEARD of this movie until the day before I bought my ticket and BAM - what a lucky thing for me! Stylish, smart, fast-moving, action-packed. I don't have enough adjectives. This heist movie has a great cast with some stellar performances and some of the best action sequences I've seen this year. Forgetting his obvious troubles, Chris Brown's chase scene was superb -- a memorable one I'll be talking about. If you like a great caper this ensemble will leave you breathless. See it.
It's a refreshing end-of-summer release -- a relationship for the present day. Barrymore and Long are a fun couple to watch. It's the story of 6-week romance that turns into a long distance one. It's honest, funny, sweet and sexy. I really enjoyed seeing a 'love story' where one party ISN'T crazy or cheating or suffering some emotional damage. These two are a couple just trying to make it work in this crazy world with all of it's challenges. Great supporting cast too!
I thought I was watching the SKINEMAX channel. Badly executed story (oh wait, there was NONE), and lots and lots of female nudity. Clearly the time Clooney spends in Italty is affecting his perspective on his movie choices -- and not in a good way! A couple of "hits" - and lots babes. Seen it. No flare and no style at all; and its hard to make a crappy movie in beautiful Italy. I nearly fell asleep during some scenes. Several people in the theatre left early ... I wish now I'd been one of them. Warning to parents - NOT FOR KIDS.
Oh my! I was excited to see this film and could not have been more dismayed. The set-up was GREAT ... documentary style explanation of a 'televangelist' and the secrets behind the cloke. I'm riveted. I'm ready for the preacher's arrival at the residence of a troubled young girl .... then it all goes wrong. The fright never materializes. I kept waiting for that 'crazy' moment that scares you out of your wits -- and I waited and waited and waited. The last 2 mins. were OK ... but it can't nearly make up for all the missed plot points that could have made this story so scary good.
WOW - am I glad I didn't listen to the critical reviews of this one! I had not heard good things but the stars likeability factor made me decide to go see this film ANYWAY -- and I was glad I did. Yes, it's predictable ... but I confess ... I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a twist on a modern girl-wants-baby-story, and it couldn't have had a better cast. It a thoughtful story line that's unexpectedly funny. I fell in love with the young Thomas Robinson and am currently searching for a Jason Bateman clone.
The third in the series is fun! It's a stretch of a scenario, but I'm going to forgive the storyline because I'm in favor of just about any story that produces great dancing! These dancers are inventive, original and so enjoyable to watch! My only criticism here is wanting more couples dancing and a little less full ensemble. With attractive leads, it was practically written already .... and it seems like that opportunity was missed!
