True-to-life has rarely been funnier! This group of girls has it nailed - every bride has a collection of friends [something] like this - but we wouldn't dare reveal some of the graphic bodily functions displayed in this film (warning: funny and disturbing!) The cast was perfect and I'm now an even bigger fan of Kristen Wiig. Enjoyed the slapstick and the story that went with it. Not for the faint of heart though!
Russell Brand is to die for ... as was the entire cast : ALMOST! Unfortunately, the only performance here that pales in comparison to the original is Arthur's true love. Liza was a force of nature - quirky, funny, engaging ... and a great actress. For me, the new love interest isn't any of the above, and I found her performance flat and the relationship contrived. That aside, Brand is a comic genius, and I loved the perfect corporate-ladder-climbing-money-grubbing Garner as Susan. Helen Mirren as the stalwart nanny is impeccable casting. Try NOT to think about the original when you watch - this one's got it's own flavor and fun for a new (or older) generation!
Great story of a man who loses his memory after an accident. His confusion over his identity can be temporarily explained - but what about the ill-fitting memories. Real? Imagined? How can he know? He goes on a quest to prove his identity and finds more information that only adds to the confusion. Finally, along comes a man who can help him remember - or help him forget.
I thought this film was well-written and acted, altough Neesom seemed a bit older than the role. Still - great action and twists along the way. Especially enjoyed Diana Kruger's performance.
The premise is a well-known one. Average person finds himself in circumstances where an opportunity is presented that could change his life. In this case, the consequences of taking the risk are unknown - until a point of no return may have been reached. It's a high-stakes game of risk v. reward and of the battle of conscience -- at what cost are you willing to try to have it all? Cooper's character faces the internal demons and external pitfalls of his choice - even after he can foresee the results. I loved the cast and performances and enjoyed the ride through crazy town!
Enjoyed the movie overall - good cast and some great action! Special effects were phenomenal, but I honestly was hoping for a little more. I'm not quite sure what was missing, but the setup for part duex at the end left me feeling like the movie was made SO THAT they could have sequels. Perhaps that was the failure - not a full concentration on the original film. Still one of the better man v. alien movies I've seen in a while.
If you haven't seen it - don't miss; don't wait! I think the title has folks a little confused but let me be clear : this is one of the better movies I've seen in years. Smart, unexpectedly funny, poignant and courageous, Colin Firth embodies King George VI - the man, his challenges and his triumphs. The King's leadership, fortitude, and love of country and family turn the tide for a royal with no intention of becoming a King. This mostly-based-in-fact story eloquently unfolds, with the added zest of the best horse race that's ever been called.
Blunt and Damon light up the screen in this story of destiny and who owns yours - you or "THEM". When Damon's character attempts to defy "the PLAN", we're taken on a ride that pitts fate, happenstance and luck against the willfulness and structure of The Bureau. While I found the story less intense and intriguing then it could have been, I enjoyed these performances very much. Blunt and Damon have great chemistry and I found myself rooting for their rebellion and reparte.
You don't have to be a song 'n dance or theatre lover to appreciate the amazing performances in Burlesque. And, more than that, there's an actually story line to go along with that razz ma' tazz. Since the era of burlesque has passed, the entire filmed made me feel like I was in a bit of a time warp (b/c it is set present-day). However, I still enjoyed immersing myself in their world for an afternoon -- Christina WOWED, and Cher and Stanley Tucci were her perfect complements. A superior cast MAKEs this movie a success. It didn't fizzle - it sizzled! Enjoy it!
It was good; with the potential to be great! Wonderful script and actors, but this story didn't really add up the way I hoped. There wasn't a point at which we learn why Gyllenhaal's womanizing character falls for this smart-mouthed ill girl. There's a set up explanation, but my experience is that men like that would RUN from this situation *sadly*. In spite of that overwhelming plot line flaw - these two have great on-screen chemistry and I was rooting for their relationship right through the tears. Some moments felt forced; some abosultely raw with power and emotion. It's not your typical love story and THAT's why it should be seen!
An original great script and film are hard to beat -- and it hasn't been done this time either! A nice try, but I couldn't figure out quite where this film was headed -- and I certainly didn't feel the tension the first film was able to create. I think the security cam aspect didn't deliver the results the director intended. The other baffling component of this film was the constant "booming" background effect. Did the characters hear this? If they did, why weren't they alarmed by it or looking for the source of the noise? If they didn't why did WE hear it? [shaking head here]. There's a disconnect here. The ending was great - as was it in the first film, but the ride to get there not nearly as good.
