Not the best movie you're likely to ever see, but decent. The Sherlock Holmes character is interesting, and Robert Downey Jr. does a very good job in its interpretation. The focus on Holmes' eccentricity is a bit over-the-top, but that is part of what makes Holmes...Holmes. Jude Law's Dr. Watson is, unfortunately, mostly forgettable.
This disjointed prequel to the X-men series was really bad in so many ways. The writing and storyline were very weak, even by comic book standards. And not that good acting is a requirement for comic book movies, but it was definitely absent in Origins. The action scenes had some appeal, but only some. I don't want to give anything away here, but for those that graduated high-school, you will get more out of your evening staying home to clip your toe nails.
Overall this was a good movie with interesting dynamics. Clint's performance was very solid, and the relationships between Walt's character, Sue, and the preacher were all excellent. The character of Thao needed better development, writing, and directing. Bee Vang, frankly, is not a good actor and was not convincing. Still, The other characters, and the story line make this movie a worthwhile experience.
This was classic Jim Carrey. From the physical comedy, the quirkiness of his character, the way the storyline flowed, and even the great performance of his co-star, Zooey Deschanel, this movie was a treat. Not quite as great as Liar Liar or the classic that is Dumb and Dumber, but certainly up there. Plenty of belly laughs from the entire audience.
The opening car chase is actually too unrealistic and the camera work was too jumbled for the watcher to really embrace. The car action was okay itself, but the sheer number of bullets fired at very close range to his car, yet failing to disable the car or strike our hero, made it too difficult to accept.
Plot was scattered more than my hashbrowns at IHOP. The multiple stories, and oddball twists, such as the reappearance and almost immediate death of Mathis, caused this movie to derail over and over. I hope future Bond movies recreate that great combination of action, humor, drama, and emotion, that was so perfectly presented in Casino Royale.
