This movie was amazing. The 3-D effects were amazing and the story line was great. After seeing the movie (IMAX 3D), I would not shut up about it for a long time afterwards. The story was very different from the book, but it was different enough to be good simply as a completely different story. Other movies have kind of failed at this (nice try, Eragon). The characters were funny and the dragons were fierce, in a cute way. Things are generally supposed to be cute in a kid's movie.
The theme of the movie was good, and it wasn't too focused on trying to impress it on you, which was also good. Movies can get annoying when they ditch the story to preach at you about how you should do this and not that and that sort of thing. The themes may be good, and they are important, but that isn't the whole movie. The whole movie is a mixture of things, of effects, story line, theme, character development, scenery, battles and more.
That's what people go to the movies to see.
That's what How To Train Your Dragon is.
