To be a great Star Treck story it must be more about the characters, their interaction than just special affects. We all want to believe in heros. In this case there's a starship full. The group dynamic is still growing and bonding as it did in the original. Anyone one who knows the words ""Five year mission to seek out new life, new civilization, to boldly go where no-one has go before" should jump for joy. A movie that amazes and tells a story we can wrap our heads around! Beam me up Scotty!
