Kate Winslet is much more than "a pretty face". A chance incounter one day turns into a summer romance so powerful that it affects Michael Berg and the way he relates to women. While spending time with Hanna an older woman he reads the classics to her. Swept up in the moment he fails to notice than she turns down the offer to read. She abruptly leaves without leaving a note, leaving Michael devestated. Later, Michael becomes a law student and while attending the trail he comes across Hanna. It is then he realizes her secret. He torn between assisting her and for justice. The movie moves slow but is well worth seeing.
A parent's worst nightmare. Imagine being on the phone with your teenage daughter and having to listen to her screams as she is being abducted. For some strange reason the bad guy decides to speak to our hero to taunt him further. Of course it is a big mistake. After telling his ex-wife through the help of her current husband he head to Paris. Not only is hero forced to go against a well orgainized criminal gang he also has to contend with a betrayal as well. Several times the movie would seem to slow down onlly to spped back up. No Oscar winner but, good entertainment.
Micky Rourke's performance as Radny "The Ram" Robinson is the shot in the arm his career has needed. Rourke plays an aging wrestler look for one more pay day. You see the not so glamours side of "sports entertainment" Evan Rachel Wood's too brief performance as the daughter who had been neglected because of The Ram's focus on his career. When given a chance to mend things with his daughter The Ram blows it for a tryst with a "ring rat". Marisa Tomei has her best performance since "My Cousin Vinny". .The film reminds me of the career of Jake "The Snake" Roberts. A person who had all of the "tools" but threw it away due to drugs. While not the slam bam movie I thought it would be still, seeing Marisa Tomei is worth it and the story is solid.
What "Witness" did for Harrison Ford by breaking him out of the "Han Solo"/ "indiana Jones formula "Defiance" has done for Daniel Craig. First, the Bielski brother's main concern was how they would survie. Then fate places them in a situation where they must choose whether or not they are obligated to help others. After a raid goes wrong Tuvia (Daniel Craig) expresses concern and decides on a different approach. Brother Zus (Liev Schrieber) not satisied decided to join a local group of Russian fighters instead. Several times Tuvia's leadership is challenged and he is forced to make a deal with an insurection in his group. They were able to keep 1,200 Jews safe from Nazi oppression. A powerful movie.
From the likes of Robin Hood, Zorro, Sir Gallahad, and The Scarlette Pimpernel we now have "Despereaux to add to the ranks. Here is a movie that promotes: honour, virture, and justice. It also teaches us forgiveness as well. Little Despereaux refuses to conform to the status qou and seeks to achieve a higher level. Our hero faces, friendship, danger, betrayal, and of course forgiveness. This is a lesson we can all learn from.
If you are looking for an Oscar caliber movie, this ain't it. Again we come across Frank Martin in a situation where he has no choice but to accept. In the meantime an interio minister is being pressured into signing a contract giving a company permission to dump toxic waste in his country. With his daughter being held hostage he is walking a fine line to protect his daughter and keep his integrity. Natalya Rudakova is easy on the eyes and I nominate her for the next Bond girl. Top flight action.
People who a fractured families can identify with this movie. The cast was good and there are several funny scenes. This is the kind of movie I would recomend seeing with a large group.
This movie starts out intense drops a little then WHAM smacks you again. Daniel Craig reprises his role as everyone's favourite superspy. Wanting to avenge the death of his lover Vesper Bond seeks out the people responsible. Not only does he have to contend with the mysterious organization "Quanton" but his own allies as well. This causes Bond to turn to an unlikley scource for help. So many twist and turns adds to the suspense. Well done!
This is the classic the "one" has been there all along type of movie. Josh Zuckerman and Amanda Crew were well casted as friends who are afraid to take it to the next level because they don't want to ruin their friendship. Clark Duke is miscast as a "Lothario" type of character but the character is a good sidekick for the main characters. James Marsden plays a "poor man's" Stiffler. Although uneven the laughs are there.
