This movie moved slower than the previous ones. We see "the children" of Hogwarts grow up before our eyes to which they are now young adluts. While being prepared by Professor Dumbledor for the final conflict with Lord Voldemort, Harry also must cope with his feelings torward Ginny Weasley while watching his best friends Ron and Hermonie deny their feelings for each other as well. There is a touching scene between Harry and Hermione expressing their frustrations. However, Tom Fleton has proven himself in his performance as Draco Malfoy. Helena Bonham Carter combines mental instability and sensuallity quite well.
First of all any comedy with Sandra Bullock automatically starts with two stars in my book. Ryan Reynolds has come along way since "Two Guys A Girl And A Pizza Place." But the show stealing performance belongs to Betty White as "Grammy". If she isn't considered for at least Best Supporting Actress then there is no justice. Ms. Bullock plays an executive that makes the late Leona Hemsly seem warm and fuzzy. When she she is informed by her bosses that she is being deported because she filed to fill out the proper forms in time she will be deported. When her assistant shows up to "get her out of the meeting" she suddenly annouces to them that they are getting married. This starts a chain reaction to the obvious.
After seeing the previews on television I thought, wow, this sounds like a great movie. Far from the truth. The movie dragged had some funny moments, dragged, had some funny moments, dragged, dragged, and dragged. I will point out however, the performances by Zach Gallifanankis as the brother-in-law to be, Heather Graham as Jade the stripper/escort, and Rachel Harris as the witchy girldfriend of the Ed Helms character. There was a character that I thought was offensive (and for me to say this says a lot) to both people of Asain descent and to all people who might lead an alternate lifestyle. My advice, wait for it to come on HBO.
The Terminator saga takes us into the future to where we get to see the adult John Conner. It turns out that John Conner has almost as many detractors as supporters against their fight for survival against Skynet. When he learns that his father is in danger and without him Conner himself would cease to exsist he must weigh the consequences of disobeying orders or to rescue his father. The special effects were good and the action scenes were less than the standards o the first two movies but acceptable. Christian Bale, when not throwing a temper tantrum proves he is part of the next generation of phenonal performers. A worthy movie to see.
Growing up reading comic books you usually found your hero refraining from killing their opponent. In fact with some heros you find that they woud only resort to violence when no other method would work. Then came "Weapon X' a.k.a. Wolverine. His code seems to be "Mess with me and I'll cut your heart out!" We learn the mysterious man past and his affillication with the sadistic "Sabertooth". With his unque ability to heal at will we learn that the man know as "Logan" became who he is now in order to exact revenge for the death of a loved one. When he learns that Sabretooth his hunting down fellow mutants this further enrages Logan. with the execption of changing James and Heather Hudson from the comics this was a well done movie.
From what the trailers indicated I thought the movie would be about a crotchety old man and an idealistic scout. It was that but there was another part of the plot that made the movie even better. We come across Karl a man on the twilight of life living in the home he helped restore. With everything he knows and loves disappearing his home becomes his refuge from the world. Enter Russell, begining his adventure through life. The two form an unlikley partnership that developes into a wonderful friendship. Kudos to all character involed in this project. I recomend it for children of all ages.
The movie was a little sluggish but it was well worth seeing. Russell Crowe provides his usual steller performance. Ben Affleck really shined in his role as well. At first I realized the plot twist but still got it wrong. Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, and Helen Miren more than held their own as well. Jason Bateman's brief scenes were the glue that put the puzzle together well done.
Okay, so you aren't going to see this film nominated for any academy awards, however if you enjoy fast cars, on the edge of your seat chase scenes, and hot women this is your film. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker reluctanly team up to go after a common enemy. One is in it for duty te other is personal. All Jordana Brewster has to do is to stand there.
While I did not see the original "Witch Mountain" I watched this one with great interest. Dwayne Johnson has left the ring behind him. Carla Gugino is a most underated actress in both performance and looks. After finding two children in his cab little does Jack Bruno realize that his life will never be the same. After eluding the feds Jack blunders onto an alien assasin bent on keeping Sara and Seth from returning home thus leaving earth open for invaison. An interesting scene in the movie is when Kim Richards from the original movie shares a scene with Anna Sophia Robb. . It was a little slow in the begining but it is a movie the whole family can enjoy. Also of note is Gary Marshall's performance as a conspirancy nut.
I guess you have to be a fan of the graphic novel to appreciate this movie. After looking forward to this movie I was very disapointed. It is a challenge to keep a movie interesting and run long at the same time. I will praise the martial arts fights scenes and the special effects. Also, kudos to Mailin Akerman, Jackie Earl Haley, and Billy Crudup who I did not recognized. But a big kudo to Carla Gugino a underated talent. While trying find out who is trying to kill them Rorschach is raising the alarm. In the meantime the world is moving closer to Armagedon. The movie could have been shorter.
