even robert downey couldnt save this tripe. the obvious problem w/ 'superhero' movies is that good always wins. ergo, no confict, no tension and no satisfaction
no plot, really... no acting, from usually decent actors. weird cinematography: the use of what i assume was intentional, DV home movie for hyper-reality did not work. Never captivated or diverted. no reason to go see this; i left before it ended and ought to have left sooner.
Standard to above standard Mamet... in a film about integrity, it's notable that the director sacrificed some himself. One major problem is the score, which distracts... detracts from, and undermines the sense of reality Mamet typically tries to achieve. The plot is a bit predictable; the presence of Ricky Jay and the sleight of hand setup 'tell' too much. However, the sense of tension is very effective. The film's exploration of integrity and honor make it ultimately worth watching.
