This is an excellent film--fantastic performances from all involved and a much more realistic "look" than the first (which I also liked). Ledger really makes your hair stand on end with his unsettling creepiness. Definitely not a "fun" summer flick (like "Hellboy"), but a truly great movie.
Purely as a feast for the eyes, this movie wins. But, it has an engaging story and good performances (esp by Perlman, who I've always loved) as well. The characters as soooo imaginative. It's hard to do anything original anymore, but there are some characters in this movie that are just that. Pure fantasy and I loved it.
The animation is wonderful, the backgrounds beautiful, the action exciting, and the story and characters engaging. I really wanted to rewind the movie and watch the climactic battle between Po and Tai Lung over again! As a fan of Shaw Brothers kung fu movies, this was a terrific movie for me. It followed all of the kung fu formulas without making fun of them. I'm hoping it will start a new generation down the road to watching more of the original films.
