The trailer showed every funny scene, and though the extreme wierdness and awkwardness of the families was at times amusing, overall it was just a letdown that lasted - thankfully - less than an hour and a half.
I seldom dislike movies, but the one big sin for me is when the trailer basically has all the laughs you get in the theater. Unless you crack up at Duvall asking his son if he came back for his tampons, or both mothers being hypersexualized, then there were no new laughs in the movie but those shown in the trailors. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Robert Downey Jr. was awesome in this role. The bit about weapons makers being evil was overdone, and of course, you can only eliminate weapons if there is a SUPERHERO to do it. But, though the premise was a bit cartoonish, the acting, effects, writing, direction were all very good. And to get back to the great adaptation, since this is a superhero movie the plot worked really well, especially with Downey's characterization.. I enjoyed this movie as much as any this year.
