Charming and Engrossing

We did a family night out with 12 adults and 9 children to see the 3D IMAX version of this movie. The consensus was that the movie was funny, charming, pretty true to the original story, yet offered us an update. Despite knowing what Scrooge would say to the next person and to whom he and the spirit would visit next we could not wait to hear the line delivered and the scene unfold.
The 3D was well done. As opposed to taking over the story, telling the story, or making up for a bad production, the 3D was fantastic, was not overdone and it enhanced the way in which Jim Carrey & Disney told the story
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Not Like the Original

I hoped that this version would offer a present day perspective, but it was strictly a re-imagining.
I thought Reeves was an excellent choice for the unemotional alien.
Connolly's charater was too trusting, for a scientist trained to work imperically. She "sides" with the alien visitor with no evidence (other than an attempted handshake) of peaceful intentions. In my view, the charater unrealistically subjected the human race to irradication.
Unlike the original, there was no interaction with the political leaders of the day, no offer of solutions to our issues, not even a discussion of our issues and thus no opportunity to display the irony captured in the original.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
