Nothing like the first and not in a good way.

This movie was absolutely terrible. It was much darker than the first, the character design was over all much gloomier and demonic compared to the Ghostrider of the first movie. His skull was even black and not white this time around. There was something of a gross black tarry substance also that seemed to be on his jacket and his skull.
Where the first movie had passion, romance, adventure, and a clear theme of good vs evil, this movie lacked all of the above. The plot was bland, the story was flat and the flow of events was choppy and childish.
There was nothing heroic or valiant about Johnny Blaze in this movie, he was a washed out recluse, a hermit, trying to suppress the curse which the first movie ended with him declaring that he would own to fight against evil.
I thought the first movie was decent but still not really very epic or climactic, but this movie is so far out there, it doesn't seem to really follow much at all from the first movie. This might as well be a remake of the first and not a sequel, and I would refrain from giving it even that merit as this version is just atrocious.
Save your money, don't even bother renting it. You'll just be polluting the atmosphere of your living room with utter garbage.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Too much epic

Obviously with each installment of the Transformers movies, the action, special effects, & the whole "wow" factor has been increased. They raised the bar significantly from the first Transformers to the second, and from the second they jumped leaps and bounds to the third. After about an hour of insane crazy action scene after insane crazy action scene I almost began to feel a little bored. I know its fiction but some of the scenes were so beyond unbelievable to the point that they crossed the line from "awesome wow" to "yeah right!". However some of the unexpected and comic relief moments were just too priceless. So there was some balancing out but I still found parts of the story and plot very hard to follow amidst all the chaos. This may easily be remedied just by watching it a second and third time, as with all movies I'll catch things later on that I didn't the first go round. The soundtrack was pretty good in my opinion though there were times I was expecting the music to rise to a mighty crescendo and it didn't which left me hanging. Overall I felt it was a bit too long, again major overkill on the over the top, insane, crazy action scenes. But that's kind of what a movie like this is all about. Chances are your going to see this just for all the in-your-face-blow-stuff-up-destroy-the-city-huge-mecha-robots-slicing-through-steel-and-concrete-like-butter-amazing-wow-electronica-sound-effects-galore-soup. Or you grew up with Transformers and everything else is just icing on the cake. And if your like most kids, the icing is the best part.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It shames the series!

If you are not familiar with the series this movie is based on, you might enjoy it. But to anyone who was a genuine fan of the cartoon this movie does a great injustice. So much of the series had to be cut out, and even though the movie doesn't account for the entire four-season long series, it does cram a lot in a tiny 100 minute block. And frankly it does a poor job of it. One of the biggest turn-offs for me was the character representations. In the movie, the fire nation look Muslim or Hindu, none of them looked the way they did in the cartoon. In the movie, the earth nation look Asian, which is how I would have cast the Fire Nation, as that's how they appeared to me in the cartoon. I would have cast the earth nation to be more like native American or Indian. Uncle Iroh in the movie, a slender figure with sharp features and cold un-inviting over-all appearance, is like a polar opposite of the uncle Iroh from the cartoon, who was a large friendly nurturing & warm character who you wanted to be around. As well as with most of the other characters. Prince Zukko doesn't look as sharp and handsome in the movie as in the series. Aang's tattoos are completely wrong (they'r solid blue in the cartoon) and they don't even pronounce his name like they do in the cartoon. (in the movie it's "ong"... rhymes with bong. In the cartoon it's "aang" rhymes with bang.) Along with the loss of visual appeal, a great deal I felt was lost emotionally as well. There is a great lack of charm in the movie as compared to the cartoon. Great is an understatement, it's down right epic! I felt like so much of the story development and plot had to be cut out to fit as much as they could into this movie that all of the awesomeness that was the series got tossed to the curb. I wasn't even that impressed with the martial arts and special effects. The costumes could have even been better, in many of the scenes they ranked of cheap quality materials to me. I very much enjoyed the series, and comparatively, this movie was like bland skeleton of something much more magnificent.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Another romantic comedy

It was not as funny as the preview made it look like it would be. There were plenty of ridiculous sherades and antics, some of them quite memorable. As the movie progressed you felt the general tone between the main characters go from bitter to affectionate and of course the guy gets the girl in the end. But for those of you who can appreciate a cute love story, and even the beauty of develping real feelings for someone, this movie wont leave you disappointed. It's worth seeing just for it's charm alone but it's not for everyone, if you don't like romantic comedies, don't go.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
