I don't expect much from movies, most of the time. 2 hours or so of escapism. This one, within 15 minutes, I was just shaking my head and waiting for the pain to be done. No plot, poor acting and really bad special effects. If this is what passes for movie humor nowadays, stay home and watch network sitcoms.
What a piece of garbage. I've heard the "can't translate the book to the movie" argument but this is beyond bad. Zero sympathetic or even understandable characters - maybe Basinger's character is the best of a bad lot. I will be on the lookout for any other movies based on this author's books so I can avoid them.
The plot was pretty dumb. Acting (especially Smith) was OK, but the 'bad guy' was not any kind of a legitimate threat and the major plot twist was revealed early and not all that exciting. Theron & Smith don't interact particularly well, but I believe most of that is the fault of the storyline in general. Wish I had waited for the weekend early A.M. show, it's cheaper.
