Funny, goofy comedy

Brendan Gleeson plays a foul-mouthed, obnoxious, libidinous small-town Irish policeman in this funny comedy. The Irish accent is occasionally an impediment to the listener, but this is a nifty raucous lark, very enjoyable.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie depicts in an gripping and largely realistic fashion what might happen during an outbreak of a new and deadly contagious agent. Don't look for special effects or breakneck chases. Instead watch as people are alarmed, mystified, and a little desperate, while others sow fear and yet others race to combat the threat. I thought this was an exciting and well-developed story.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Very appealing love story

I have come to appreciate Anne Hathaway as a very good actress. I really enjoyed her in "Love and Other Drugs." And her expressions and delivery are pitch perfect in this movie. The movie follow the friendship and almost love affair between two people over something like 20 years. One of them is a romantic gad-about; the other is ever poised to be in love if the opposite would ever commit. This is a sweet or anyway bittersweet love story. Don't let people tell you much about the movie. I enjoyed it very much.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Cute and sexy

This is a cute and sexy movie with two attractive leads who do good work in their roles. It does run a bit long, and the inclusion of angst-y issues near the end was unnecessary. The movie is lightweight, but pleasant to watch.

Great comedy!

This is a great comedy. Three guys each have gosh-awful bosses, and talk each other into bumping 'em off. This is a preposterous plot idea, but the story moves along briskly, with almost non-stop funny dialogue, much of it delivered at a rat-a-tat tempo. The three leads give very good comic performances, each different from the other two. If this had been a romance, we would call it a screwball comedy. Great fun!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is a buddy movie, but featuring the ladies. It has all the hallmarks of flix out of the Apatow stable. It is about affection, friendship, loyalty, and love. All along the way it is on raunchy, crude, profane, and vulgar. But it is consistently funny. As always for this genre, there is a sweet ending. Star and screenwriter Kristen Wiig has written a noteworthy script. A lot of fun, and very funny and enjoyable. I'll have to watch it later on DVD, since my audience drowned out some of the dialogue.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

mindless but enjoyable

This is a long chase movie. A girl, maybe 13, has been raised with survivalist skills in remote snow country by her father. For some reason, both are wanted by US authorities. Both separately light out of the wilderness, agreeing to meet up in Berlin. Mostly we see the pursuit of the girl. The action is exciting and scoots along briskly. But we don't know much about why all this is happening till the very end. Kinda mindless, but engrossing enough.

Great story and well acted

A would-be writer with writer's block gets his hands on a stash of pills that make his brain work ten times faster and better than normal. Suddenly he is a roaring success at, well, just about anything he tries. Then problems start cropping up. Once you get past the improbability of those pills, the plot line is actually very logical. This is an adventure film, but of a intelligent, brainy nature. It is exciting and gripping, but without the need for car chases, special effects, shootouts, etc. A very original story, well told and well acted. It far exceeded my expectations.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent quiet movie

A lawyer takes on the guardianship of an aging client with dementia, promising to give a certain level of care, a promise he immediately breaks. Things get complicated when first the old man's grandson, and then his prodigal daughter arrive on the scene. This is a quiet movie about how we do or don't care for people, about shared humanity, about moral behavior. It is a quiet movie, but a very satisfying one.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Nifty adventure movie

This is a very entertaining movie. The script is original and clever, though it has the feature that the story gets retold repeatedly, in the fashion of Bill Murray's Groundhog Day. But this is an adventure movie, with Jake Gyllenhaal as a military man, sent repeatedly back in time, onto a train that has crashed. The plot turns show variety. Gyllenhaal's performace is really good. This one keeps you guessing. And this one is a winner!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
