the books are fluff and fun and I expected the movie to be just that. There was nothing spectacular beyond the casting of just the right people to play Greg, Rodrick , their Dad, Fregley and Rowley. Perfect choices. But it was a thin plotline based on a book series with a thin plotline. Fun gags, an extra character that tried to impart some depth but overall, my 10 and 8 year olds gave it a C. Worth the Redbox or Netflix rent but not a run to the theaters kind of show.
I really appreciated that this didn't focus too harshly on inhumane treatment so it does offer a broader appeal. Highly informative and empowering. I would write more but I have to go dig up my back yard for my garden.
I would actually give it 4.5 stars if the rating system would allow halves. So rare when a sequel surpasses the original but this one achieved that rare feat. Dynamite work from Azaria and Adams just added to the amazing chemistry of the original cast. It's great to go to a movie with the kids and be genuinely entertained - a hit, for sure.
