This film raises the bar for the standard "super hero movie" genre, but also bends its place there as well. This is more of an epic crime drama, a well-fashioned and executed sprawling tale of urban decay. Of loss. And it's a weighty film, rich in both detail and meaning. And woven tightly throughout, is hope, albeit in glimmers. Nolan and company have created the perfect blend of a sequel to Batman Begins, but also remaining most true to the comic tales The Dark Knight Returns and The Long Halloween.
Also, if you can, see this film in IMAX! It will absolutely blow you away!!
