Fast paced, emotional, best film of the HP series in explaining to non-readers of the books what was happening and why. Finally, the film makers had enough time to fully develop background info and not rush crucial scenes. As an adult HP fan, I am very weary of the media continuing to call the HP series a "kid's" story yet at the end, I was wishing Harry could stay that little kid forever.
But it's PG-13 for good reason: there are some intense, scary, bloody moments in this film and it's moody, foreboding, and not your typical fun day at Hogwarts! It captures the main trio's personalities (the acting is SUPERB in this one!) and their relationship to each other - you see them as young adults and not school kids anymore. Action scenes are well done and exciting. If you're bringing along an HP novice you might need to explain a few basics beforehand such as the Obliviate spell, Horcruxes, side-along apparition, floo network, polyjuice potion.
I left the theater feeling just like I did after I read the last page of the book - rather depressed and a bit overwhelmed. However, when it was funny, it was the best use of humor ever for an HP movie, carried out extremely well by the main trio and newcomer Jessie Cave as Lavendar. A couple of scenes actually gave me shivers and were very intense (the cursing of Katie Bell and poisoning of Ron Weasley). Even though you probably won't leave thinking "Wow, that was fun", you definitely get a feel for what Harry is faced with in the next installment and feel like you were really in that fantasy world which is now not a kids' story anymore.
