It is impossible to separate what you love about the books from the movie. I couldn't even imagine what watching the movie would be like not having not the read the book. That being said, the love story is the star of the book and of the movie. Edward (Rob) and Bella (Kristen) shine in the film. The film was fairly true to the book, as much as it probably could possibly be. So many characters and scenes were crammed into the film, that the 2 hours flew by. Every character had a moment of introduction. The special effects were great at times and the dialogue a bit corny at times, but that was to be expected. Overall, fans of the book will be fans of the movie, plus a few folks may be converted along the way.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
