All This Movies Will Take is Your Time & Money

I looked forward to this movie for a year and was bitterly disappointed.
A great cast, a refreshing new movie location (upscale L.A.) and a potentially good plot all destroyed by a director who can't hold the camera still. I'm all for directors developing an auteur style, but this film just looked like a drunk 16-year-old got a hold of his dad's camcorder . The editing was abrupt and shoddy, with characters randomly appearing in locations. It was also ridiculously inconsistent. They're smart enough to get rich robbing banks but stupid enough for the plot in this film? Please.
The policeman and his partner and that subplot are equally absurd, and they don't provide a good foil for the robbers at all.
Also, everytime a good action scene started it was hard to tell what was happening because the director would choose to focus on the a door frame or a hubcap attach the camera to the racing car so you're looking at pavement whooshing by. Even a potentially great free running sequence was ruined because you didn't see a lot of the, well, running.
The characters had potential for being interesting, but after some intial development were just left to be static, making them two-dimensional at best.
Also, there wasn't any reason to believe the men were friends, really, just that they knew each other. This made it even harder to get invested in them. Sure, they're bank robbers with a heart, but I couldn't care about any of them. I sure felt taken after I saw this film.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

What a flop

The worst thing about this movie for fans of the series and the first film (such as myself) is watching the strong, wonderful women we've come to love get thrown under a bus with bad dialogue and no plot. It's not the actresses' fault, it's that whoever wrote this movie either hates women or never saw the show. Sure, the ladies love shoes and fashion--but that was never the point. The point was that they could be successful enough to get them on their own. Here Samantha comes off as pathetic instead of secure, Charlotte as a spoiled, whiny idiot (a full-time nanny and you can't handle the kids, really?), Miranda as a half-assed tour guide, and Carrie as a 15-year-old in her first serious relationship.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Choppy plot

This movie was extremely disappointing. Although there was decent acting and action, the plot had gaping holes in it you could drive an armored truck through. I don't expect complex plots from action movies, but this really was inexcusable. For example, a time constraint, which almost made the movie interesting, was introduced but then not dealt with at all in the latter half of the movie. Only one character was fully developed and the ending was ridiculous.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Not for true Sherlock fans

If you have never read any of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels, this will undoubtedly be a fun, entertaining and action-packed movie they will enjoy. The dialogue is snappy, the pacing fast and the acting superb.
For anyone who loves Doyle's characters, however, I would not recommend this film. Although the director does attempt to show Holmes' more athletic side and stays true to Watson's being a stalwart friend and ally, in every other respect the director has chosen to completely disregard Doyle’s characters.
Holmes' quirks are exploited as shticks and Moriarty is more a badly-written comic book villain than a worthy opponent.
To true Sherlockians this movie is bound to be a disappointment.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The most impressive thing about this film was Director Michael Mann's ability to take versatile actors, fantastic shooting locations, great costume design and somehow still make the movie look like it was shot by a 16-year-old boy who just discovered the "Zoom" button on his parents' camcorder.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
