comedies this year. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are well matched and the movie was perfectly cast. It's a laugh a minute. Betty White is hilarious a the ninety year old paternal grandmother with the sense of native spirituality. I highly recommend this film for a light hearted ladies night out. Take you Mother, your Sister or your best friend and GO!
for this horror flick. There were a few moments when audible gasps could be heard throughout the theatre, but for the most part, The Haunting in Connecticut was pretty tame/lame, by my standards. If you're a hard-core horror fan, save your money...you'll be disappointed. I was disappointed that the film glossed over the house where the action was centered. The movie was based on a true story and I would have liked to learn more about the setting and what happened there and when.
I went to "Taken" not expecting too much from the movie. I was amazed! " Taken" turned out to be a great action film with a fantastic plot. Liam Neelson was terrific in the role of a divorced Dad, trying to reconnect with his daughter, who is kidnapped in Paris. His expertise in the Secret Service, the very reason for his failed marriage, enables him to rescue his daughter and connect with his family. This is one the the best movies I have seen in months and I see a lot of them!
Almost every woman I know can identify with life of the main character (Isla Fisher). Who hasn't justified a purchase which was way over the top to themselves at some point in their life because they "had" to have it? Take you Mother, your Sister, or your BFF to this movie and enjoy! It''s cute and humourous. Casting is brilliant. Hugh Dancy plays his supporting role well too.
There is something in this movie for (almost) everyone. The married can remember their dating experiences, or the lack of thereof, and the currently single will be able to identify with the perils of the pursuit. Drew Barrymore goes a great job with her role as a desparate woman who has been known to stalk her prey. It's very funny and also sadly, true to life, for many. I thought is was a great movie for a date with someone with whom you are serious and want to ascertain if you are on the same page concerning many of the human issues touched on within this movie. In my humble opinion, "He's Just Not that Into You" is a great 'opener' for a serious conversation.
Hathaway and Hudson both worked well together in this romantic comedy. The plot is weak and immediately obvious to anyone who has seen the trailer, which gives it away. However, it's great, light, family (mother and daughter) entertainment or for a ''girls night out''. Not much substance but entertaining, nevertheless. As usual, Candice Bergen was a treat. She radiated the 'class' her role demanded. Very well cast, all around.
Slumdog Millionaire was good, but not great. I am probably in the minority who didn't think this movie was an Ocsar walk-away, but I really found it somewhat boring. I didn't think the film deserved all the 'hype' it received at the Golden Globe Awards. I enjoyed the musical score but the plot was somewhat simplistic and very obvious. I felt I had to add my honest opinion in order to provide a more 'balanced' viewpoint. Likely there will be others who also share my views but may not choose to express them.
With so many dark movies being shown in recent weeks "New In Town" provided a welcome change of pace. I welcomed the chance to see this light romantic comedy and I wasn't disappointed. The worst thing I can say about the movie is that the outcome was quite predictable. Much of the movie was actually filmed in Winnipeg. Manitoba, Canada rather than in Minnesota and as a Canadian, I was glad to support the Canadian film industry! Go and see this one...It's nothing serious but it's a lot of fun!
with a very disturbing theme. Fiennes was excellent in the role of a man who met Winslet as a younger man when they became lovers. She showed him compassion in contrast to her former life as a guard in one of the Nazi concenration camps. At the war crimes trial we learn that Winslet's character is sentenced to incarceration for a term of twenty-five years. She learns to read in prison and the two former lovers correspond through audio taped novels read to her by Fiennes This is a powerful although very dark film. The Holocaust theme is, as to be expected, profoundly disturbing.
Movies just don't get any better than this one. It's historically correct and Sean Penn does a brilliant job of portraying the Late gay rights activist, Harvey Milks. Everyone should see this movie...gay or straight. There are some powerful lessons to be learned here. It's awesome and amazing...open your minds and GO!
