I adore Johnny Depp so this movie was a "must see" for me. Depp was good, but not great. Helena Bonham Carter was wonderful as the Red Queen and stole the show, so to speak. Anne Hathaway was expectedly cool and regal. Mia Wasikowska was absolutely teriffic in the title role. I thoroughly enjoyed it although the movie is not totally true to the work(s) of Lewis Caroll. I would strongly recommend that you see this movie in the 3-D version. The details and colors are much more clear and vibrant.
I've seen a a long time. It's a race against the clock...two young children are dying of a disease related to M.D., known as Pompe. The race is on for the invention of a drug therapy which will manage the disease before the eldest child, now age eight, attains the age of nine years: the longest any patient has ever lived with the disorder. Brandon Fraser skillfully plays the role of the dedicated Dad. Harrison Ford is brilliant in the role of the independent and unorthodox professor/research scientist who, with the financial assistance of his new partner, works day and night to find a cure for his partner's children before the disease claims their lives. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout!
I wasn't expecting another Lord of the Rings but I couldn't get past the entire idea of a serial killer targeting a teenage girl. I walked before the enf of the first hour seeing the ending just wasn't worth the emotional discomfort to me.
Emily Blunt will ever be remembered for her wondrful interpretation of the young Queen Victoria but this movie is more than that. It's a romantic and very realistic account of her marriage to her true love, Prince Albert, and their life together. It's a very romantic film with lavish sets, costumes and brilliant acting. Genuine eye-candy for royal watchers and those who enjoy films about the English Royals. The film is anything but slow and is highly entertaining even for those who don't usually enjoy historical films or period pieces. Blunt's acting is Oscar material and it will make you make forget that you are in a theatre. Victoria's two suitors are equally strong characters.
Seriously, it's a great comedy! Domestic bliss (sort of) and a laugh a minute. The acting is great...what else from awesome cast of Meryl Streep/Steve Martin? It's a highly entertaining movie and a great pick for the season... Go and enjoy!
Terry Gilliam's directing style is not for everyone but he did a superb job in rescuing this movie, otherwise doomed to the cutting room floor, after the untimely death of the Late Heath Ledger. It was great to experience Ledger's extraordinary talent once again. The movie is worth seeing on that basis, alone. Johnny Depp was fabulous, as expected. Parnassus is a morality play but the sets and costumes are lavish and enjoyable and serve to counter-balance the darkness of the theme. I would caution that this movie is, in my view, inappropriate for children under the age of 14 years due to the theme.
but I still enjoyed this movie! Perhaps I was in the mood for a light-hearted, romantic comedy with great scenery and photography, set in Ireland, rather than Scotland. This highly entertaining movie was just the ticket for an otherwise bleak Canadian winter day. I really enjoyed Amy Adams in her starring role and appreciated the talents of both her male companions. There is nothing to offend in this movie and it's nothing but pure entertainment....enjoy!
and not what I was expecting. I am a HUGE George Clooney fan and he was awesome, as I expected. However, the plot was inherently depressing, especially at this (festive) time of year. Many people have lost their jobs recently and a movie about exit interview specialists leaves me about as cold as a Canadian winter night in Winnipeg. Sorry, but not my kind of film for the holiday season. I would recommend this movie for the acting but not for the plot especially during the holiday season.
well worth the effort. This movie is about hope: the hope for a better life. "Precious" is a survivor. "Precious" is the account of the various forms of abuse experienced by this black, overweight, 16 year old female raised in Harlem. "Precious" never gives up no matter how many times she hears her own Mother describe her as "stupid". In the end, Precious triumphs when a teacher at her "alternative" school takes an interest in her and "Precious" learns to read. This is the beginning of a new world and a better life for "Precious" and her two children.
This movie boasts a star-studded cast with a great musical score. I had the pleasure of seeing it during the World Premiere of the film and I was thoroughly entertained. It is a humorous account of an Italian movie producer (Lewis) and the women in his complicated life, including, but not limited to, his Mother (Loren), his wife (Cotillard), his mistress and a cast of many others. I never laughed so hard in my life! It is a light-hearted musical comedy with lavish sets and costumes. Go and enjoy and remember that it's great to be Italian! :-)
