A very intense movie presented as a series of "Chapters" not in chronologic order, that show individual and linked vignettes that taken as a whole present a graphic, frightening picture of the Israeli arab community of Joffa, where Ajami is a neighborhood. It took my wife and I an hour of discussion after the movie to put the detalis into focus, and some of these details require a knowledge of both Judaism and the Arab culture.
This dark series of inter-related chapters requires some puzzling to get the full context, and then you realize how powerful this movie is. Totally capativating although exhausting in its intensity.
Confusing, but with many interesting angles, as came out as my wife and I disussed this movie, but aimed only at a Jewish audience of a certain age. Not for gentiles unless you know a lot about Jewish life. Had its moments but in the end, it wasn't worth going to and I will not recommend it
Not as gripping as the play but still very good. I'd rate the acting as uniformly excellent but the story, especially the ending, as good but not as great as the play
