Many impressive Armageddon effects, and John Cusack is his loveable self, but the movie misses more than it hits. It's the spiritual successor to Independence Day, but it's by no means an improvement, and it's a lot less fun. When the script postulated that neutrinos from the sun have somehow spontaneously "mutated" into a new kind of elementary particle, I realized that I was going to be left to the tender mercies of Hollywood for the next two and a half hours. Plus, I can just hear all the climate change deniers out there saying, "See? We told you it was the sun's fault," and something about the weather on Mars. Sit this one out unless you truly have nothing better to do with your time and money.
