The best part of this movie is the interaction between Shia's and Carey's character. The writing, plot and direction are horrible. I love New York, but I don't need to see sweeping views of the city every 5 minutes. It's predictable, sappy and boring. The only thing I couldn't figure out was when it was going to end and it didn't come soon enough.
I'm surprised at the reviews that talk about Shrek 2 & 3 being good. I thought they were a waste of time. I thought the first was great and this one is good. The 3D effect was obviously an afterthought and I hope other film makers won't use 3D just because it is the "new" thing. it will dilute and hurt the format. All that being said, I took my 8 year old and he liked it. He agreed on it being the 2nd best, but enjoyed it.
These movies are made for kids and it kept my 7 year old entertained for almost the entire movie. He said he was bored at parts, but I heard him laugh out loud 3 or 4 times during the movie. I was bored when the squirrel (scrat?) wasn't on the screen which was about 90% of the movie. Unlike a Pixar movie, which I would go see without the kids, this movie is strictly for the younger set.
While the message this movie promotes is vital and everyone should stand up and say "no more", I thought it didn't go far enough. McDonalds and Walmart could change the food industry overnight if they would stand up for what is ethical and not for what makes them the most amount of money. I strongly believe in profit, but I think you need to put the health of a nation before obscene amounts of profit. I think this movie should have focused more on those two giant retailers of food.
