Bring on the Steam Punk Baby

If you're a SH purist this movie is going to drive you crazy and I would understand and appreciate your frustration. But if you're open to just enjoying a good ride, then make haste to the theater. The production design is really great (dark, detailed, edgy Victorian) and the Robert Downey Jr subtle comedy touches delight (think Chaplin...). The Oscar-and-Felix odd couple set-up between Holmes and Watson provides the real humor. The love interest is miscast (IMHO). But who can resist a villain who's part Vampire Overlord, part Al Capone? It's fun.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
