The superb acting in this movie made all the characters seem totally real and believable. Penelope Cruz, especially, was a delight, her over-the-top, crazy character providing laughs and yet surprisingly evoking sympathy as well. It's an old-fashioned, character-driven piece, beautifully filmed in picteresque settings. After seeing this film, you will want to hop on the next plane to Spain!
I guess I am the only person in the country who hated this movie, but I found it to be very depressing and way too long. It was more about blowing things up than anything else. Yes, I will admit Heath Ledger was very good and so was Christian Bales along with the entire supporting cast. But I kept wishing the movie would please end before one more person got killed or maimed. Not fun!
This movie is just a hoot! Lots of fun from beginning to end. It feels like they must have had such a blast making this movie--it just oozes joy! You want to sing along and dance in the aisles. For me, Meryl Streep was miscast. Even though she does pull it off and sings and dances beautifully, she is really too old for the part. And even though Pierce Brosnan can't sing worth a damn, he was perfect for his role! Just go see it so you can walk out with a big smile on your face.
