I think it's safe to say that the adults in the theater enjoyed Despicable me just as much if not more so than the kids. I know I loved it and even though the
The minions are worthy creations, and Steve Carell is funny as the squishy anti-hero. Very good, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I don't feel like I set my expectations too high for this movie (or maybe I did), but I came out of the theater slightly disappointed.
Not because aesthetically it wasn't pristine and beautiful. Del Toro never disappoints with his creatures and sets. But I resented the recycled lines from the previous Hellboy just because they worked in HB1.
But because lines worked then, does not mean they will integrate in other installments. Most if not all of the old lines ("you should be running.") were awkwardly placed in HBII.
Except for HB's ubiquitous "Oh Crap." delivered with varying and effective expressiveness by Perlman.
I am recommending it to friends because the new laughs (Manilow, PRICELESS!!) are worth the price of admission and because it's just an AWESOME movie visually. But the old laughs kind of detract from the new.
