If you're a Tarantino fan, you've already seen this film (if you haven't, go see it, it may be his best work to date).
If you hate Tarantino, avoid this film unless you're a huge fan of long scenes, random acts of gore, and over-the-top film making (in which case you are a Tarantino fan, you just don't admit it :) ).
If you haven't seen a Tarantino film before, you should see at least one. And this film is a great place to start.
I went into this film after reading reviews from friends I trusted, so I knew it was going to be bad but I really liked the first movie, so I needed to watch this one. I also knew that I had to see it on the biggest screen with the best sound system I could find (IMAX is almost as good as the hype).
The robot fighting is very cool. Everything else about the film could be used as an example of bad movie making.
