I HAD TO WATCH THIS MOVIE TWICE....ONE RIGHT AFTER THE OTHER! I WAS SO DISTRACTED BY THE HEAVY MAKE-UP AND EVEN HEAVIER DIRECTION THAT I COULDN'T FOCUS ON THE STORY!
The 2nd time around I was still distracted but I tried to ignore the fact that everyone looked like a ceramic doll. Even Charlie!
The hard, dark focus and blue tint was annoying too. The whole movie was just a series of extreamly tight close-ups. The fights moved too quick to really tell what was happening... like maybe I blinked too much and missed all the fun.
All the Director's 'tricks' where too obvious...too DISTRACTING! Instead of focusing on the story and the characters...the DIRECTION SCREAMED "LOOK AT WHAT I CAN DO TO FILM", "LOOK WHAT I LEARNED AT FILM SCHOOL!" IT WAS VERY ANNOYING!!
The movie, the story was lost in the messy direction....but it stayed true to the book so I guess most fans will be happy. I was both disappointed...and relieved that the movie was finally released. Yes, I'll probably see it several more times...if only to work out what bothered my so badly about it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
