I agree with other reviewers this is no Oscar contender, but if you want to see a fun summertime movie, this is it. I rated this a "good" movie for just that reason.

didn't live up to the hype

This was a good movie, but it wasn't great. The special effects were pretty good and the characters were awesome to look at. However, there didn't seem to be much of a storyline, nothing was ever really explained. My husband actually fell asleep. Go see this movie if you're a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp fan, otherwise skip it.

Good, but too long

Love Johnny Depp in pretty much anything he's in and I was willing to stay in the frozen movie theatre to watch him, but the movie was about a 1/2 hour too long. It's a pretty good period piece with the scenery, costumes and attitude. There wasn't enough character development and I didn't know who people were supposed to be so I had a hard time following the storyline. There were a couple of scenes so unrealistic that I was scoffing during the movie. I like Depp so much that I kept hoping for the happy ending I knew wasn't coming. The movie is missing something, but I'd recommend it. I wouldn't go see it again, though.

This movie did a good job of paying homage to the original series and parts of the movie were very funny. However, the movie was too long and had too many parts that dragged along. I wouldn't see it again, and would only recommend it to friends if they were in the mood for something silly.
