This movie exceeded every expectation for me. There's no doubt that the special effects and animation pack a mean punch but there's a very good storyline that keeps you interested. When you become invested in characters and what happens to them in the story, then you know you have something that's worthwhile. I can't wait to take my mom and see it again!
Good shock points, screaming scenes, thrills, suspense, supernatural antics reminiscent of Poltergeist/The Exorcist/Amityville Horror and not to mention a very good cast. It's worth seeing in a theatre first and picking up later on when it's out on DVD.
There were scenes that had good shock value. It didn't last very long. Good actors tried to help relay the story (Carla Gugino, Gary Oldman and Jane Alexander). It just didn't work. Unlike "The Exorcist", there is no time for plot development. It felt like you were learning about Judaic mysticism/rites of exorcism on speed. The last few seconds of the movie unfortunately imply a sequel. One scene in the movie involves a 4-year little boy intentionally stabbing the main character's best friend. When help arrives, what you see is the possessed little boy on top of the girl stabbing her repeatedly. Other movies with less effect have gotten the "R" rating and I was shocked that it was given the PG-13 rating for that disturbing scene.
Everyone needs to see this movie. It's so GOOD! Kathy Bates is a WONDER. The way the story unfolds to reveal the hidden truths that one can already see coming a mile away is a testament to Tyler Perry's great mark on storytelling. Good God...even though you suspect what's happening, it's still so shocking as to how the truth is finally revealed and the consequences that occur as a result. Robin Givens is a treat in this movie. Sanaa Lathan really displayed a different character than what I've seen her play before and I've been following her career since she started in "Blade". She's come a long way! I'm sure I will be purchasing the movie to own when it's released on DVD.
My review title says it all...it's a pity because this film had a chance to break away from the norm. They had more than qualified actors and they did do a good job of terror building but if I knew it was going to stick to the reality of what happened to these two people, I wouldn't have wasted my money. I found the website related to this actual tragic event and thought that the director, to protect the families, was going to change the ending and get these characters to survive. My friend and I were disappointed.
IT was worth every penny...the story, the friendship and the FASHION!! A good girl's dream come true. Run don't walk if you're a fan of SATC and even if you're not, you're bound to get caught up in the whole thing and still be able to make a real connection.
The story was a good one. I never read the books as a child nor do I have any desire to read them. I've seen the first movie and now this sequel and have been thoroughly satisfied. The special effects in this installment were really awesome and everything about it transported you to another place and time easily without the feeling of "what the heck just happened?" The money was well spent and the movie made me crave for another installment...maybe Narnia...The Caspian Reign!!!
Martial arts action, good story, beautiful scenery and really good special effects...it's a film to be enjoyed on a large screen. You won't be able to appreciate it on a home TV set unless it's a drop-down screen. You'll miss the best of the movie. You will definitely get your money's worth.
