This is a remake of one of the greats from the UFO days. They left out the line, Gort, Clato brada nicto.
The premise of the movie pre-supposes man is good enough to change and save the planet in the process. After thousands of years we know that ain't happening.
I didn't quite get the black kid white mother part. Why? Get Will Smith's kid a job? Made little sense.
Some parts could have been longer to flesh out why the space confederacy was going to destroy earth. I got the feeling the script was hijacked by environmentalists to somehow save the world with it. An enviro mantra. Gort needed a bigger part. I guess making him huge sufficed.
This incarnation was to fast out of the blocks and didn't develop the story line sufficiently. It goes from the opening sequence to the site of the excavation. I had to guess who the young man was. I don't recall a reference to him near the opening.
But, like the last Mummy movies, it was action packed, filled with the impossible and improbable. All in all it was a good trip from the realities of everyday life. Action packed and fast.
