Epic films like Australia don't come along very often. Too many variables conspire against their success. Enormous costs, skillful acting, clever screenplays and panoramic locations all must be synchronized perfectly to effectively engage their audience for well over two hours. However, Australia is a true gem. It ranks up there with the English Patient, Gone with the Wind and most of David Lean's movies. So, just sit there, enjoy the journey and prepare to lose yourself in the Downunder during its nefarious mid-twentieth century turbulence as seen through the conflicted eyes of gorgeous lovers and a street-smart yet adorable aboriginal youth, who serves as your personal guide.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
