Django Unchained is one of the most brutally uncomfortable films I've experienced in quite a while. I felt uneasy nearly the entire time. Though Quentin Tarantino is clearly attempting to shine a light on America's disgusting history of slavery, his insatiable on-screen bloodlust glorifies violence in a way that rivals the fantasies of any real life mass murdering psychopath. I believe the film will be considered one of the most violent and socially offensive films in recent memory, but I guess that was the point he was trying to make. Definitely not a good movie for mentally ill people with gun collections and a plan.
Overall the film lacked the smooth style, clarity and focus that made Inglorious Basterds such a great film.
Pros good period piece, overly accurate portrayal of past events
Cons distracting violence
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Predictable and not very interesting...almost walked out.
Went to see this last night. I'm surprised it earned such high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. It was predictable and not very interesting. I barely made it through and almost walked out twice as I simply didn't care about the story or any of the characters. Best part was the helicopter smashing into the mansion and even that was comical.
Checked out Chronicle last night. It's a teenage mind-over-matter fantasy flick shot in the first person perspective. The movie was a realistic portrayal of superpowers run a muck that in many ways reminded me of "Akira". It received 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and was actually really good. The kid in me has always day dreamed of making this movie. Fun times. :)
97% on Rotten Tomatoes??? Disappointing. Visually pretty (hence two stars not one) but slow plot and overall a boring film that misses the mark. I actually dozed off for a bit near the middle and had to force myself awake in the hopes it would change soon. By the time the finale came I was disinterested. I don't know what it is with professional critics kissing Martin Scorsese's butt.
The Social Network was a very good film with an awesome screenplay by Aaron Sorkin. Director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, Benjamin Button) is by far one of the best directors out today and Trent Reznor's score is hypnotizing. Definitely recommended. :)
Checked out Enter The Void last night at the Nuart in Santa Monica. WOW!!! The place was packed and nobody made a sound. I've never seen anything like it! It is by far the most psychedelic & wonderfully disturbing films I've ever seen. Prepare to be hypnotized visually and shocked mentally. Highly recommended for those who can handle it, definitely not for the weak or closed minded.
Can Gus Van Sant make a bad movie? This is yet another excellent film from this timeless director. Not only was the film captivating, but the performances were great.
