Inconsistent but a funny bit or two

Jason and Judd tried to make an updated version of a romantic comedy but got sidetracked by focusing on just the big joke scenes. There was some good character development especially the rock star. But overall the writing was uneven causing you to spend a lot of time just waiting for the next funny scene. Tighter editing would have made this a bigger hit. Also, the "graphic nudity" at the beginning was unnecessary to the story. It's only purpose was to create buzz for the movie. So if you have nothing better to do (or cannot get into Iron Man), cool your heels for a couple of hours at this film. But it is not worth making a special trip to see it. Rent it instead.

Bogged down in the mud

First 30 minutes was a fun film. The banter between the lead characters was great. But after that, just like the final football game at the end, it became bogged down. The banter vanished and the tedium set in. Since this was done during the writer's strike, it is easy to see how important good writing is.
If you like the actors, rent it when it comes out. Otherwise, like so many movies this last two years, skip it to watch paint drying.
