Major Disappointment

We totally enjoyed Rob Marshall's "Chicago" but this mess is not anything like that. It is only loosely based on the Tony award winning Broadway play. Only here, instead of a 40 year old director with writer's block whose loss of the women in his life inspire him (play), you have a 50 year old director just losing women. The only good parts are Fergie's and Kate Hudson's numbers. The rest is dull as cardboard. Not even a good rental. Go see Up In The Air again.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Best Adult Movie This Year

It is funny and heartwarming without being sappy. Sandra Bullock does a fantastic job of allowing her emotions to show without having to tell you how she feels about Oher's plight. And you learn not to judge people by where they are but who they can be. When the tween girls are off watching Twilight, the rest of the family can enjoy this very entertaining movie. You really will come away feeling hope for the world again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Good Movie About Untrue Story

A good movie with interesting subjects, thought-provoking relationships, and a few twists. It is not George Hamilton's life story.
Rene provides a nuanced performance, while Kevin, Logan & Mark are great. The only problem is that it is a lie. George was the oldest son, an actor at 13, and his dad's name was not Devereaux.
So enjoy the movie for what it really is--an comment on women in the 50's. A socialite who marries for success, her plain sister who discovers her own truth, a young girl who may sell her body to survive, and others. Some learn, some don't, but all grow.
Watch this movie as a comment on life and you'll come away satisfied.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A Darn Good Movie That's Fun To Watch--Again

It's refreshing to see a movie that entertains and leaves you feeling good. Here you have the best actors making the most of a tightly-written script. Yes, it's about a problem (deportation) compounded by a quick plan (marriage) with a common storyline (boss falls for secretary). The twist is who is being deported (a executive) and the pairing (female boss/male secretary). Add a bucket of fresh ideas and a perfectly layered story and you've got a funny, funny movie. I missed jokes because he theater was full of loudly laughing people. I guess I am going to have to see it again...and again! And did I mention the puppy? Scene-stealer!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A Sleeper Hit

OK, there are no car crashes, vampires, magic wands, zombies, superheros, or spaceships in this movie. Instead, there is a warm and funny story about relationships, living life, and finding yourself. Nia Vardalos is her usual Greek self, sweet and funny. Richard Dreyfuss adds a touch of class and depth to the movie. The supporting cast does a wonderful job playing a bunch of characters you might find on any tour bus. And Greece itself is a special character with beautiful vistas and iconic ruins. Except for the first 10 minutes, this is an excellently written, well paced movie that entertains like movies used to do. For over an hour and a half, you can forget your worries and just be happy. See it with a friend!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This Movie Won't Go To Heaven

Having read the book, I knew this was Dan Brown's weakest story but even Ron Howard couldn't save it. If you like mindless action, you will love this movie but if you like a story, strong characters, and something to keep your mind engaged, there is nothing here for you. Even a great star like Tom Hanks was reduced to spouting gibberish and trying to make it sound plausible. BOTTOM LINE: Weak story that lacks the intrigue of Di Vinci Code and relies too much on stupid plot twists to try to keep your attention. Don't waste your money. Ron, no more sequels, please!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Finally, Something Worth Seeing

With so many poorly written, disjointed movies showing these days, it is a pleasure to be captivated by a tightly written, well acted piece of entertainment. A real story about real people dealing with their realities. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the final twist that actually took away from the impact of the story. Still, it is worth the time to see it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

What a Mess!

I was surprised by how disjointed this movie was. Tony Gilroy's "Michael Clayton" showed he had the chops to write a tight script. But even with so much talent on the screen, nothing seemed to work here. There was almost no chemistry between the Julia and Clive, the rivalry between the two CEOs was underplayed, and the jumping back and forth disrupted the weak thread of the con so when it came to fruition, no one cared. If you want to see a great con movie, rent "The Sting" and avoid this mess of a movie.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Simply said, this is not a "chick flick." It is a story about real relationships and emotions. Sure, there are multiple storylines but life is that way. The reward is an enjoyable two hours full of laughs, insights, and revelations. Don't miss it.

The stage is set for success

The first of this trilogy hit all the right marks with an excellent balance of action, wit, and angst. Evenly paced, there was enough techno highlights to engage any geek but also plenty of people issues for the other half of mankind. A much better movie than any other Stan Lee creation since it didn't get mired in self-pity or stupid "Why me" moments.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
