Fatalism dominates this film. Little can be done to control your destiny (or God's will), regardless of how good a person you are . A take-off of the story of Job in the bible. While the movie is funny, the underlying theme is not. If the Coen brothers weren't Jewish, I would think this movie is somewhat anti-sematic given the stereotyping of Jews in the film. Having said that, as a Jew, I found that many of the experiences that Larry and his son had with the religious leaders rung true. I recommend the film highly...but I think it will have limited appeal. As my husband said, "It won't play well in Peoria!"
Love and marriage never looked so perfect. Gorgeous kids, emotionally sensitive and communicative men, mega clothing budgets, ample time to play, tight bodies and flawless skin....it's a wonderful dream. LADIES...THIS IS NOT REAL LIFE!
The movie is long and repetitive, although there are some very funny scenes that remind you why you loved the show. 15 minutes of commercials and too many product placements in the film are overbearing. I may be the only NY female that didn't LOVE, LOVE the movie!
