Reports of rave reviews aside, this flick is a snooze. Or I just didn't get it.
Either way, me no likey. No, that's not accurate, I'm wholly apathetic. Which may be worse when you think about it: Drag didn't move the needle on any emotion at all for me.
This is fun though: close your eyes and the female lead sounds just like Drew Barrymore!
I don't know what I expected, but it's definitely not what I got. Too bad J.K. Simmons wasn't in it more. His scenes were the best, and they definitely saved the best for last.
This flick hits all the right notes. Anna Faris and the one who looks like Lindsay Lohan are outstanding. It's fun like Legally Blonde was. It rocks the expected recipe, including the requisite makeover montage, with the all-too-often missing ingredients: talented, likable and FUNNY star and supporters. You'll leave energized.
A masterpiece from beginning to end. An action spoof that actually works, and in the process becomes a viable action-comedy flick in its own right. I worhsip at the altar of Robert Downey, Jr. but believe me, EVERYONE in this pic is hilarious (the "demolition man" delivers side-splitting lines superbly!).
I almost always feel uncomfortable watching musicals, and this was no exception. Especially during Pierce Brosnan’s apparently painful numbers. Watching actors sing at each other, each looking at least a little self-conscious given the unlikely settings and overall absurdity, makes for a cringe-worthy movie-going experience.
Having never seen the stage version and knowing nothing of the story, I was at least entertained by the expectation of surprise. But I was never carried away with ebullience, which was the point.
Mamma Mia had the makings for greatness but never got there in my opinion. Now maybe if they were animated characters…
Even though I'm a fan of this genre, this flick flopped. Maybe it's precisely because I'm a devotee that I didn't dig it: I've seen it realized the right way many, many other times.
Vegas lacks the pacing and charm of a well written and directed romcom. I'd wager these two actors are friends in real life (and one of them knows Latifah) and agreed to do a movie to try to up his ante. It definitely doesn't meet her usual standards, but maybe this DOA disappointment will keep his career on life support.
