Usually revenge movies involve guys. It is a new slant to have the revenger being female. Opening chase sequence is different and really well staged. Slows down when the love interest appears, he is the big weak point in the movie but is needed for the plot. violence (in 2011 terms) isn't OTT although i was surprised it is rated PG 13. Some nice touches worth a look.
I am surprised at the mixed reviews, gripping from beginning to end. Needs lots of thought and concentration, maybe why some critics didn't get it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is Mel Gibson at his best, he has always been good at the slightly mad character, no more so than in this revenge movie. Slows slightly in parts hence 4 rather than 5 but good solid thriller. Only criticism is that a few of the plot threads are a bit obvious.
This has its moments, unfortunately they are too far apart to make this a good movie. The spoof trailers at the beginning of the movie and Stiller's performance as Simple Jack are the few highlights in a movie which tries hard but in the end fails. Coppola if he sees this will wonder why it took so much effort and time to make Apocalypse Now. If he had only waited 30 years he could have made the whole movie on his home computer. Tom Cruise's role (more than a cameo) is a departure from his usually clean image, but somewhat contradicts his angst last year at Katie Holmes for taking on a role which he didnt think it would be suitable for his children to see. All in all a disappointment.
