Great Premise that Goes Nowhere

What a disappointment--- great premise, great cast, - and all that potential adds up to a basically flat movie.
Like Bruce Almighty, we watch the main character be given god-like powers, only to squander them away in an unappealing display of self-indulgent self-pity.
There is a bizarre sub-plot in the movie about genetics, where you are considered a "loser" if you don't have the perfect genetic code. This "master race" subplot isn't handled with a comic touch, and it weighs the movie down.
So what is this movie... A comment on society? An anti-religious screed? A warning about genetic planning? What it's NOT is consistently funny. The Invention of Lying is a disappointment, and that's the truth.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
