The depiction of the violence was too graphic. This movie should have been rated "R".
I liked the original John Wayne - Kim Darby movie better.
Hailee Steinfeld was excellent as Mattie Ross. The movie would have been better without Matt Dillon. A different actor should have been chosen for his character.
I liked this movie better than Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader drew me into the story much better than Prince Caspian. In the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I felt like I was there. In Prince Caspian, I felt like I was viewing the story from a distant vantage point.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Even though I knew the outcome of the races, I was excited and nervous about the results of each race. I believe this was due to the story being well written. I like where the Preakness was shown on television at the Tweedy family home in Colorado. We were able to see the family's excitement about the race and the horse. Some of the videography during the races was a little off. Maybe it was grainy.
During the first 2/3 of the movie, I was grossed out. There were a couple of times that I thought about of getting up and leaving. However, I stayed to see how the story ended. In the last 1/3 of the movie, a reasonable story line began to develop. This movie could be made shorter, and a very good story could be developed. But, that is not the route the writers chose. This is a very poor movie. The cinematography is very amateurish.
This movie was good until the end. The ending left the audience hanging. Nothing was tied up or concluded. I was very disappointed with the movie's ending. There was no closure or a lead to what might happen in the future, except that Harry Potter would not be returning to Hogwarts.
