This movie requires patience but if you're willing to follow all the twists and turns, you'll enjoy the beautiful, moving images and powerful storyline. Not to be overlooked is the complex nuanced acting from Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain as well as the child actors. Sean Penn is good but his role is more limited.
The Pan's Labyrinth director applies his creative flair for costumes, make-ups, and cinematography to the comic book action movie genre. While I didn't see the first one, my friend who did said this one was better not just with the visuals but also in the storyline and the dialogue. This movies had some real funny moments and the best part is that the jokes don't seem like slogans a bunch of advertising people concocted. While the storyline is somewhat predictable, the characters are interesting and avoid some of the common comic book stereotypes. Overall, it's a fun movie that worth seeing in the theaters.
