Silly, gross and overly simplistic. What is supposed to make you scared makes you laugh instead because the entire premise and the situations are so cliché and so ridiculous! And please! Whose idea was it to cast Justin Long as "the boyfriend'??? All throughout the movie Allison Lohman looks more masculine than he does!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Save your intelligence from insult

Boring and "paint-by-the-numbers" plot! Was hoping this "sequel" would be a more fortunate rendition of the book than The Da Vinci Code was. Sorely disappointed. Simplistic and trite as to be an insult to the intelligence of anyone who has had the chance to look into plots and possibilities of conspiracy theories from time immemorial...
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The 1959 version still rules!

If you go to see this movie seeking a refreshed version of the Jules Verne's classic, you are going to be sorely disappointed. The original book gets mentioned and shown a lot on screen, but the plot has little to do with it except for the main premise itself. The 3-D visual effects were amazing, except for some lame ones that really never came to fruition. If you have the possibility and can spend the extra $2.00, go for the 3-D showing. The plot of the movie is puerile at best, the acting pretty mediocre and the actual treat presented by the original Verne's book (the changing geological eras with its environs and monsters and perils) is mostly absent for this newest screen version which instead chooses situations and surroundings geared to highlight the 3-D aspect of the movie . To me, the 1959 version, while not perfect, holds closest and truest to the Verne's book.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
