Far-fetched but fun

This telling of Sherlock Holmes positions Robert Downey Jr. as a drug-addicted alcoholic brawler with some high-functioning autistic spectrum disorder who is called on to save the world from a satanic sorcerer in 19th century england.
The movie does require you to suspend your disbelief for a while, as well as put aside your image of Sherlock Holmes as the gentleman scholar who solves mysteries before teatime. But when you do it's a well-paced and fun movie. I loved it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

District 9 was a fantastic movie with surprisingly realistic special effects, especially considering the incredibly low budget of only 30 million dollars. When I read it was on handheld cameras I was expecting a vertigo-inducing shakycam experience like the Blair Witch Project. Instead, it helped draw you into the story and made it seem oddly realistic. The lead actor, Sharlto Copley, did an excellent job creating a believable character and shows that humanity does not only apply to humans.
Go see this movie. You will enjoy it for the action, the story, the violence, the drama, and even the visual effects. District 9 really is something incredible.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
