This was more than just a movie about baseball. It was a celebration of the human spirit, overcoming the horrific obstacles of racism, and retaining one's self-esteem in the face of overwhelming hatred. This was simply a wonderful movie. During my showing, the entire audience was cheering and clapping. Kudos to director Brian Helgeland for a superb movie, one of the best I've seen this year. Definitely, see it.
This movie is long on special effects, non-stop bombing, and fatalities. The story will appeal to the younger set. I found it amusing that the female GI Joes go into combat wearing full eye make-up and dark red lipstick. Anyway, the movie was fun and offered non-stop action.
The acting was fine, but there was no chemistry whatsoever between Tina Fey and Paul Rudd. Lily Tomlin's role as an eccentric back-to-nature aging writer was a tad over the top. I expected more from this movie considering the superb cast, but it disappointed.
