"The Sweeney" is a high-action movie, to be sure, but with dubious morality – was Jack Regan (Ray Winstone) on the take? – and a confusing plot that often seem too clever for its own good.
The shoot-out in London's Trafalgar Square was highly reminiscent of Michael Mann’s “Heat,” but without that director’s sense of heightened tension. This film, in contrast, simply portrays a great deal of running and shooting, with little sense of dramatic involvement.
Best summarized as another “Geezers with Guns” chase-fest. 3/10
