I'll keep this short and sweet. Firstly my Les Miserables background, I saw the Broadway show, I have the 10th & 25th anniversary DVD;s, plus the symphonic 3 disk CD's. I have the show pretty well memorized.
Tom Hooper took a chance having the actors do their own singing. Hugh Jackman, though he has a singing background, & Anne Hathaway sing their songs as actors, with raw emotion. Russell Crowe a great actor, but he sang well but did not sing his songs as Javert with the emotion that was needed.
The movie sags in the middle, a bit long, and did not need the added songs. It is a good, strong movie, and is a must see, for fans and first timers alike.
