An Unexpected Journey although not up to the caliber of any of the three Lord of the Rings films was on it's own a very good movie. My son and I saw it in 3D IMAX and were expecting to be disappointed based on the critical reviews we had read. The exact opposite was true. We became engrossed in the story, we shared a chuckle or two with the packed house during various scenes and felt some emotion when Gandalph connects with Galadriel and she offers him her help. And when Bilbo is finally accepted by all of the dwarfs. It felt good to reconnect with some of the familiar characters from the LOR series. If you are not a fan of Tolkien you might find the movie long and some scenes tedious, but for those of us who feel at home in the Shire or Rivendell this was indeed a pleasant journey back to Middle Earth.
